Anytime Fitness Expands into the Middle East with New Franchise Deal

In a move set to reshape the fitness landscape of the Middle East, Anytime Fitness, the world’s largest gym franchise, is gearing up to launch its first club in Dubai later this year. The expansion comes as part of a strategic master franchise deal signed by Self Esteem Brands, the parent company of Anytime Fitness, with a group of seasoned investors.

Led by renowned emerging markets specialist Mark Mobius, the investment group includes John Ninia, along with experienced Anytime Fitness franchise operators Ben Matute and Richmond Sy from the Philippines, who are set to spearhead operations in the region.

Sander van den Born, Executive Vice President of International at Self Esteem Brands, highlighted the significance of the UAE market, stating, “When we look at the places where our presence and brands can make a meaningful difference and capture strong growth, UAE is top of the list.”

The decision to relocate successful franchisees from the Philippines underscores the confidence in the Anytime Fitness model and its ability to thrive in diverse markets. “We’re aligned on values and purpose, especially with wider recognition of health and wellness initiatives across the Middle East,” added van den Born.

Chuck Runyon, Co-founder of Anytime Fitness and CEO of Self Esteem Brands, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the company’s commitment to tapping into the burgeoning global wellness economy, projected to reach $5.6 trillion over the next decade.

With this latest deal, Anytime Fitness is poised to expand its footprint to over 40 countries worldwide. The franchise, known for its affordable 24/7 concept, offers personalized health and wellness services including training, coaching, nutrition, and recovery guidance.

Self Esteem Brands, headquartered in the United States, boasts a diverse portfolio of fitness and wellness brands, including Basecamp Fitness, SUMHIIT Fitness, The Bar Method, Waxing the City, and Stronger U Nutrition. The recent announcement of a merger with Orangetheory positions the combined entity as a $3.5 billion business, with ambitions to grow to 10,000 sites within the next five years.

As the fitness industry continues to evolve, Anytime Fitness remains at the forefront of innovation, bringing its inclusive and accessible wellness solutions to millions worldwide. Stay tuned as the countdown begins for the grand opening of Anytime Fitness in the vibrant city of Dubai.
