Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream has begun expanding across Egypt, according to a press release.
A franchise agreement, signed in 2022, is led by Happy Joe’s Middle East LLC President Ahmed El Batran. El Batran, along with his family members — father Mohamed Magdy El Batran, mother Abeer Ahmed Abdelhalim Elkabbany, and sister Zina Mohamed Magdy El Batran — aim to open 25 Happy Joe’s locations across the country.
The first location opened to fanfare in the Cairo suburb of Roxy. Two more followed in the greater Cairo area, with two additional locations slated for this summer. One will be situated on El Sheikh Zayed’s 26th of July Road, offering delivery to previously uncovered areas and neighboring communities.
“In addition to 26th of July Road being an excellent Delco and pickup location, that restaurant will enable us to provide delivery service to parts of Sheikh Zayed not covered by other Happy Joe’s locations, as well as new areas such as Royal City, Palm Hills and Khamayel,” Tom Sacco, chief happiness officer, CEO and president of Happy Joe’s, said in the release.
The Amwaj location, situated near resorts within a popular mall, will cater specifically to summer tourism. This seasonal restaurant offers a convenient dining option for families on vacation.
El Batran’s connection to Happy Joe’s runs deep. In the 1980s and 1990s, his father and uncles owned and operated franchises of the brand. After witnessing Happy Joe’s recent global expansion, El Batran decided to bring the “pizza and party paradise” back to Egypt, a country also known as “The Land of Ra.”
“I have a deep connection with Happy Joe’s, and so many memories of spending time with family, eating their signature pizzas and having the time of my life playing games and indulging in the ice cream offerings,” Ahmed El Batran said in the release. “My family and I are very passionate about bringing those experiences to families across Egypt.”
Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream has eight company and 34 franchise locations throughout the Midwest with more in the pipeline.
