Malaysia’s Marrybrown launches in Australia, plans 30+ stores

Malaysian fast food chain Marrybrown has launched its halal crispy chicken concept in Australia. The business signed a franchise agreement with restaurateur, CB Connect, late last year to expand Marrybrown’s footprint into Victoria.

Dato’ Joshua Liew, CEO of Marrybrown, told Franchise Executives, “Through this strategic partnership, we are confident in our ability to bring “something different” to the people of Victoria.

“As part of our agreement, we have ambitious plans to open 30 franchised Marrybrown restaurants across Victoria, and we are also looking for more franchise partners to expand Marrybrown to other states,” he said.

The initial Marrybrown store has opened in Melbourne suburb Burwood.

“We carefully chose Burwood Shopping Centre as the location for our first outlet due to the high concentration of students living in the surrounding area,” Liew said. “By opening in such a vibrant student hub, we aimed to offer a diverse range of flavourful options that would cater to their tastes and budgets.”

The brand will also unveil two outlets in high traffic sites in Melbourne CBD, in Swanston Street and Crown Casinos.

“We recognised the need for halal eateries in the city centre, and we aim to address this gap by bringing a unique blend of Malaysian and Western flavours to these locations,” Liew said. “From there, we hope to keep the people happy with the tantalising taste from our meals and have them familiarised with the Marrybrown name before expanding our footprint across the rest of the states,” he said.

Globally the brand, which started in 1981, has more than 350 outlets across 16 countries.

“Throughout our 40 years of experience in franchising, Marrybrown has consistently received awards recognition both domestically and internationally for our prestigious franchising system. This achievement is a testament to our commitment to partnering with like-minded individuals such as CB Connect Pty Ltd who share our values and vision,” said Liew.
