NYC-founded Shake Shack is setting sail for Central America, announcing a partnership with Grupo Attie-Multifood Enterprises to bring its burgers and shakes to Panama. The deal will see 12 Shacks open across the Panamanian market by 2035, with the first location slated to debut in 2026.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to expand into Panama, our first stop in Central America,” Michael Kark, president of Global Licensing at Shake Shack, said in a company press release. “Bringing Shake Shack to Central America marks a major milestone as we continue to grow globally, and Panama has always felt like a natural place to begin given its blend of warmth, rich history, and a vibrant culinary scene.”
Grupo Attie-Multifood Enterprises, a Panamanian conglomerate with extensive operations in Latin America, manages over 200 stores in the region.
Hector Ospina, CEO at Multifood Enterprises, said the partnership will generate about 400 jobs.
“It’s a commitment to excellence, community and growth,” Ospina said in the release.
Shake Shack plans to collaborate with local purveyors to incorporate Panamanian flavors into its menu, while offering signature items like the ShackBurger and crinkle-cut fries.
The chain operates over 590 locations worldwide. Multifood Enterprises also operates brands such as Olive Garden and The Capital Grille in Panama.
