How did you enter in the franchise business?
Working at Chuck E. Cheese is actually my first experience being on the franchiser side of the business. In the past, my experience was working for a company that worked to bring franchise brands to our properties in the sectors of food and beverage and retail. It is unique being on the other side of the table, but I understanding the business holistically has made it an easier transition. It has also helped me to focus on the unique offerings of Chuck E. Cheese and the value it offers to our partners.
Where and how did the idea of your concept come from?
In 1977, Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari started the Chuck E. Cheese concept to pay homage to the positive experiences he had visiting amusement parks. He crafted an experience that lives up to the company’s tag line of “Where A Kid Can Be A Kid”. It was designed to be a unique place that combined arcade games, a restaurant, and iconic characters in a location where the entire family could have fun in a safe family friendly environment.
What inspired the brand name?
The desire was to create an environment for the entire family where they could enjoy great food and activities in a safe and fun environment along with Chuck E. Cheese’s iconic characters.
What is the story behind the brand’s logo?
Chuck E. Cheese was a character that was developed to represent the brand. He is not just our namesake, but the star of the show taking center stage in store and with the variety of immersive audio and video entertainment in our stores.

We are unique because we focus on families with kids 0-13 years old providing a entertainment, food, and activities all under one roof. A highly diversified collection of revenue drivers that has broad appeal.
What are the essential qualities that you look for in a franchisee?
We look for groups that have experience in the field of franchising. Experience in food and beverage or retail tends to provide a great background for managing a location.
How long does it take, in an average, for your franchisee to realize their investment?
We target paybacks for 3-4 years, but this is dependent on the type of location that is used, standalone, in-line, or mall based location.
What was the major challenge you faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?
I have always been a part of industries that are dependent on innovation and exceeding guest expectations. The challenge has always been coming up with new ideas and getting to market faster than our competitors. The great aspect of franchising is we have numerous partners that are entrepreneurs that are a great source of inspirations and ideas that we can leverage worldwide.
What is your best achievement?
My personal achievement was being a part of a senior management team that led the industry by achieving a decade long track record of success and raising the persona of the company as a best in class industry leader.
How does your business day start?
We are an operations oriented business, we focus on ensuring we have the highest level of uptime for our attractions by doing daily checks and maintenance, we focus on cleanliness, and we make our incredible pizza dough.
What was your best moment throughout your franchise career?
It has been the incredible brand transformation at Chuck E. Cheese. We continue to expand in new markets and the unique aspect of the brand is our ability and willingness to craft the brand to fit the market. Migrating from a mandated look and feel to partially customized market specific stores has allowed us to grow the brand and expand our reach.
Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?
I continue to see the brand evolve and become the world class leading in family based entertainment.
