Japan’s Genki Global Dining Concept is opening Genki Sushi restaurants in Vietnam and Texas as part of its long-term growth strategy.
The company, which also owns the Uobei and Senry chains, plans to increase its international locations from 244 in 10 regions to 317 across 12 regions by 2027.
In Southeast Asia, the company recently opened its first Thailand location in October. To cater to local tastes, the menu includes dishes such as tuna and salmon with cilantro and a spicy sauce.
In Vietnam, the first Genki Sushi restaurant is scheduled to open next year, with plans to establish four locations in the country by 2027.
The company is also preparing to debut in Texas next year, with plans to open five more stores by 2027 in cities like Dallas and Houston.
Chikako Sukehiro, GM of Genki Global’s corporate planning department, said the company is considering a “luxurious restaurant concept targeting middle-income customers” for its Texas locations.
Genki Global President Mitsunori Azuma – who assumed his role in June – said the debut in Texas could pave the way for further expansion into other US states.
“Once it gets on track, we will consider expansion to such other states as Arizona and Florida,” he added.
